COLOMBO (News 1st); The Afghanistan cricket squad arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (23) evening and are anticipated to participate in three ODI matches in Hambantota.
Arriving in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (23) evening, the Afghanistan cricket squad received a warm welcome from Sri Lanka Cricket at the Katunayake Airport.
Comprising of 25 players and staff, the Afghanistan Cricket contingent has made their presence known.
Leading Afghanistan once again during the tour is the skilled left-hander Hashmatullah Shahidi, as selectors have announced a formidable 15-player squad with four reserves for the upcoming three-match series set to commence in Hambantota on June 2.
On the basis of impressive performances in Afghanistan’s domestic One Day Cup competition, the young all-rounder Abdul Rahman earns a recall, in addition to Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia Ur Rahman Akbar, and Gulbadin Naib who have been listed among the reserves.
Having already secured qualification for this year’s World Cup by finishing seventh in the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, Afghanistan is determined to deliver an impressive performance against Sri Lanka and in the 50-over showcase scheduled for the end of the year.
The ODI matches will be held on June 2nd, 4th, and 7th in Hambantota.
