This global event is celebrated on June 21st annually. In nearly 120 countries, World Music Day is celebrated through concerts, musical performances, and various other events.

World Music Day came into existence inspired by Fete de la Musique, a music festival that originated in France in 1982. In 1981, Jack Lang, the French Minister of Culture, conceived the idea of dedicating a day to music. Another theory suggests that in 1976, Joel Cohen proposed the concept of an all-night music celebration to herald the start of the summer solstice, and ever since, World Music Day has been celebrated on June 21st.

The objective of World Music Day is to make music more accessible to the younger generation as an art form. Additionally, it aims to create an inclusive space, encouraging people to explore various genres of music and appreciate the artistry of newer generations.

On this day, musicians and singers pay tribute to music as an art form by performing for the public in open spaces. Concerts, performances, and events are organized globally to mark this festive occasion.
